Feather Alert issued as Southern California teen goes missing

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Feather Alert as the search is underway for a missing teen.

Keira Trujillo, 16, was last seen Thursday around 4:30 p.m. in the city of Murrieta in Riverside County, the CHP said. She was wearing black leggings, a black sweatshirt, black Chuck Taylor shoes and a red backpack when last seen.

The teenager is listed as 5 feet 3 inches and 110 pounds with light brown or blonde hair and blue eyes.

The Feather Alert was initiated by the CHP on behalf of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said she’s previously run away from home and was found in Las Vegas. Surveillance video showed her getting into a car in the Pala Indian Reservation.

Feather Alerts were introduced via state law in 2022 and is issued when an indigenous person is missing and believed to be in potential danger. Trujillo is affiliated with the Pala Indian Reservation.

No additional details were immediately made available.
