A couple of years ago, the long-term health of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa became a hot topic of discussion around the NFL, with the budding star suffering multiple concussions.

With so much talk about the impact of the concussions suffered while playing football, especially at the highest level, Tagovailoa was someone a lot of fans didn’t want to see playing again as they felt he was risking his long-term health and well-being.

After Tagovailoa avoided injury during the 2023 NFL season while making a case for NFL MVP and leading the Dolphins into the playoffs with one of the most potent offenses in the league, the discussions about his concussions seemed to end — until Week 2 of this season.

Tagovailoa went down with another concussion while facing the Buffalo Bills. It wasn’t a pretty sight, and fans and the media again began chiming in on whether he should end his playing career.

Ultimately, that doesn’t look like that’s going to happen as the Dolphins are holding him out for some time to get him back to being ready to play again.

With all of that swirling around the QB, former All-Pro linebacker Shawne Merriman said he believes others shouldn’t determine what Tagovailoa should do moving forward.

“I don’t think it is for me or anybody else out there to tell this man what to do for the rest of his career or what he feels or how he should take care of his family,” Merriman said, via “All Facts No Breaks.”

There’s no telling what will happen with Tagovailoa going forward, as he may eventually decide on his own to step away in an attempt to protect his long-term health.

However, in the meantime, it appears he’ll keep pressing forward and try to return as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback.
