Gyökeres is in a very good period for both club and national team. Recently, he scored three goals as Sporting Lisbon crushed Manchester City in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old sent Sweden into the lead after just over two minutes of play in Stockholm. The striker was played through by Isak and knocked the ball into the goal. It was his fifth goal in as many games in this year’s national league.
David Hancko equalized for the visitors before the break, but just after the break, the duo of Gyökeres and Isak made themselves count again for Sweden. Gyökeres tipped the ball to Isak, who took a few steps before slotting in to make it 2-1 from close range.
In the match, Slovakia stopper Milan Skriniar was sent off for two yellow cards after stopping Gyökeres on his way through.
The victory means that Sweden climbs to 13 points and has three points down on Slovakia. As the Swedes have Saturday’s opponent in a head-to-head matchup, they are guaranteed promotion to the B division next year.
Gyökeres’ contract with Sporting lasts until the summer of 2028. According to several media, the buyout clause is 100 million euros, but should be lower in the summer.
Several of the biggest clubs are mentioned in the same breath as the former Coventry player.
