The New York Jets are preparing for their Week 3 clash against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football, but a headline absence continues to loom large.

Haason Reddick, their offseason acquisition, will miss his third consecutive game as contract negotiations remain at a standstill.

Reddick is seeking a new deal as he’s entering the final year of his three-year, $45 million contract.

The Eagles’ decision to trade him to the Jets shifted the responsibility of contract negotiations to New York.

Following his absence from OTAs, minicamp, and preseason, Reddick requested a trade on August 12.

The Jets have neither traded him nor offered the desired extension, resulting in his ongoing holdout.

The financial implications of Reddick’s absence are substantial, with accumulated fines nearing $8 million for missing the first two regular-season games.

Reddick took to social media with a cryptic message as the impasse continues: “God will always make a way.”

Without a doubt, Reddick has established himself as one of the league’s premier pass rushers, boasting four consecutive seasons with 11 or more sacks.

The Jets’ need for Reddick’s talent has intensified following the loss of Jermaine Johnson, one of their top pass rushers, to a torn Achilles last weekend.

Reddick appears to be an ideal candidate to fill this void.

However, his holdout persists with no immediate resolution in sight, leaving the Jets’ defense in a precarious position as they face upcoming challenges.
