Halloween happened on Thursday with sweet treats and memorable thrills – Whittier Daily News

Costumes and candy are what it’s all about for Halloween and these events on Thursday didn’t disappoint throughout Los Angeles County.

Children in the pediatrics unit at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles didn’t miss out on this year’s Halloween thanks to a Spooky on the Block parade as costumed doctors, nurses and staff went from room-to-room and handed out trick-or-treat surprises to their young patients.

The medical center on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood is a designated children’s hospital and the staff plans  other holiday celebrations throughout the year to help make happy memories for the young patients and their families.

And in Long Beach the Neighborhood Halloween Carnival was held at Silverado Park, a free event where families had plenty of activities to chose from.

The fun included creating straw bats and Halloween masks, coloring pages and getting glitter “tattoos” at arts and crafts stations. Carnival games, including a “haunted hoop” game and ring-tossing helped to burn off some of the Halloween excitement energy. But not the fun.

The city of Long Beach’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program also included a “glow party” costume contest, cookie decorating and a “cake walk” contest.
