– Victory from God the Almighty who stood on the side of the righteous cause, says the Iranian-backed group in its first statement after the ceasefire came into force.
Hezbollah further says that its fighters will remain “in full readiness to deal with the ambitions and attacks of the Israeli enemy”. Neither the ceasefire nor the conditions for it are specifically mentioned.
Israel launched a bombing offensive against Hezbollah’s core areas in Lebanon on September 23 and later deployed ground forces. The offensive came after the two sides have fired at each other across the border for more than a year after Hezbollah stepped up attacks against Israel in sympathy with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
During the conflict, Israel has inflicted several heavy losses on Hezbollah, killing the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah and other prominent members.
According to the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah must withdraw north of the Litani River, around 30 kilometers from the border with Israel. In addition, they must remove their military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
