How to Stockpile Food For The Whiteout in Frostpunk 2

Just when you start feeling like you’ve got Frostpunk 2 figured out, a sudden Whiteout can erupt, putting your entire society on the brink of collapse. Whiteouts are deadly blizzards that you’ll be introduced to by the end of Chapter 3. With their extremely low temperatures, Whiteouts can severely impact your city’s operations and the well-being of your citizens. As the temperature drops, the demand for essential resources like food and heat skyrockets. To meet these needs, you need to plan ahead and learn how to stockpile food for your first Whiteout.

Since food production becomes zero during a Whiteout, you need to prepare beforehand and ensure you have a surplus of food before a Whiteout hits. To start stockpiling food, you need to build a Food Stockpile Hub near the Food District. This hub requires 100 workers, 80 Heatstamps, and 50 Prefabs to function. You can place these hubs anywhere, but placing them near Food Districts would save up resources in the long run. Make sure you build one as soon as you can to stock up for the Whiteout.

If your city’s Food Production cannot keep up with the demand, you’ll experience shortages and multiple crises. You need at least 40,000 units of stored food to survive your first Whiteout in Frostpunk 2. This is possible by building at least two Food Districts and two Food Stockpile Hubs as soon as a Food surplus is achieved.

Since Hubs have increased storage capacity, you can also construct separate Hub buildings to store Fuel and
Goods to have
a steady supply of these resources during the Whiteout.

Emergency Shifts Frostpunk 2

While you can always expand Food Districts to increase Food output by a small margin, there are other ways to increase Food Production as well. You can also use the “Emergency Shifts” option in Food Districts to increase their output, but this comes at the cost of Trust.

Other options for increasing Food Production include researching ideas in the Resources tree, namely Hothouses and Advanced Hothouses. These take anywhere from 9 to 10 Weeks and cost 50 Heatstamps each. While these ideas are good for increasing your Food output, they also slightly increase Disease.

Alternatively, you can instruct the Wanderers to “Tighten Belts”, which will decrease their hunger, reduce food consumption, and improve their chances of surviving the Whiteout.
