If you are new to Halls of Torment, you will start with the Swordsman, a character wielding a Zweihander that grants him access to AOE sweep attacks. He is a decent character overall, but he may fall short in the later stages of the game. Luckily, there are 10 more characters you can unlock. The Archer is the second hero you can acquire in Halls of Torment. To obtain the Archer, you need to complete the Cavern Survivor I quest, which requires you to survive in the Haunted Caverns until there are only 26 minutes left in the run. Simply survive for four minutes in the Haunted Caverns to unlock the Archer.


The Archer uses a bow to fire three projectiles at enemies. He offers the highest Critical Rate of all the heroes and has impressive movement speed to help you breeze through hordes of the undead.

The Cleric is a magic hero wielding a Holy Scepter in Halls of Torment. You can unlock the Cleric by defeating the Lich in the Haunted Caverns. This boss will spawn when there are only 8 minutes remaining in the stage. The Cleric has a special ability to apply Fragile and Affliction debuffs to enemies, causing them to take extra damage.

, the first boss of the Haunted Caverns, who spawns when 24 minutes remain in the run.

The Sorceress can be unlocked by killing 10,000 enemies in a single run of the Forgotten Viaduct. This hall becomes available after you have killed the Wraith Lord in the Ember Grounds. To unlock the Shield Maiden, you must defeat the Wraith Horseman in the Forgotten Viaduct. This is the first boss you will face in the Forgotten Viaduct and will appear once you have survived for nearly six minutes in this hall.

If you haven’t unlocked the Frozen Depths, defeat the Frost Knight boss to unlock the new hall.

The Beast Huntress is one of the few heroes with a summon. While you can use Traits to summon creatures, the Beast Huntress starts out with a Hound summon that follows her around. She also uses a throwable spear with a decent chance of applying Frost to enemies.

The Norseman is an elemental hero unlocked after defeating the Elder Giant, the final boss of the Frozen Depths hall. He is the “Master of Ice Attacks,” wielding dual axes. After you have defeated the Twisted Construct boss in the Frozen Depths, you will unlock the 5th stage of Halls of Torment — the Chambers of Dissonance. This stage is home to some of the strongest enemies in the game, but if you survive for 18 minutes, you can unlock the Landsknecht — a powerful projectile-based hero. She fires her Arquebus for strong single-target DPS, while her Grenades deal explosive AOE damage.

The Sage is the final unlockable character in Halls of Torment. After you have defeated the final boss, you will unlock The Vault, the sixth and final stage. The Vault features Agony Mode, where all monsters are scaled up to deal more damage and have higher health pools, but players are rewarded with high-quality loot.

If you survive The Vault until the final boss appears after 30 minutes, you will unlock the Sage — a character capable of wielding multiple types of attacks. Depending on the ability you pick at the start of a hall, the Sage will adapt their attack accordingly.
