Inland Empire man kidnapped girlfriend when she broke up with him: SBSD

A man living near Fontana allegedly attacked and kidnapped his girlfriend with the aim of harming her after she broke up with him Saturday night.

Isidro Contreras, 52, was spotted at Beech and Hibiscus avenues at 9:40 p.m. while “punching and kicking” a 65-year-old woman, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Deputies found the woman “in obvious distress” and Contreras holding her “in a way that suggested she was being forced to move against her will,” the release said. Contreras was then taken into custody.

Investigators discovered that the woman told Contreras she wanted to end their relationship, at which point he “threatened to kill the victim and himself, choked her with an object in an attempt to follow through on his threat, which resulted in injury, dragged her by her hair, and again threatened her when he saw law enforcement arrive.”

Contreras, who “had a sharp object in his possession,” apparently “was in the process of kidnapping the victim to harm her when deputies located them,” authorities said.

He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on charges of kidnapping and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Contreras is being held in lieu of $80,000 bail and is due to appear in Ranch Superior Court on Tuesday.
