Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers is known as one of the most talented and fierce big men in the NBA.

But he’s not often celebrated for his shooting skills.

However, that may change with new head coach JJ Redick.

According to Lakers Legacy, Redick spoke with Zach Lowe about Davis’ impressive volume of good shots during the Orlando Bubble years ago and why that’s changed in the seasons since.

“I have a theory on that. One that I’m not willing to share right now. But I will if I’m right,” Redick said.

Davis is a hugely important part of the Lakers line-up and they value what he does.

However, he was definitely a bit more versatile a few years ago, especially as the Lakers made their way to the 2020 championship.

It’s not entirely clear why Davis shoots less often now.

Some people feel it’s because he had more help on defense back in the Bubble, which meant he could put more focus on scoring and not solely sticking in the paint.

Others feel he doesn’t shoot as much just because former head coach Darvin Ham instructed him not to.

Whatever the reason, Redick obviously has some thoughts about it.

Does that mean Lakers fans will see more of Davis putting up shots in 2024-25?

That could be a total game-changer for the team.

Last season, Davis scored 24.7 points per game, which is a very strong number.

But that number could climb even more if Redick allows him to shoot more often and in a variety of ways.
