The New England Patriots are going to face the New York Jets Thursday on the road in a crucial, early-season AFC East matchup.

One New England player who could be one to watch Thursday is offensive guard Layden Robinson.

According to former Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden, Robinson has a bright future ahead of him.

“He’s a Gruden grinder-type of guard. This guy has some really good stuff, and a big future,” Gruden said of Robinson recently on Gruden Loves Football.

Robinson was a fourth-round draft pick of the Pats this year out of Texas A&M.

A two-time All-SEC performer, big No. 64 has started the first two games for head coach Jerod Mayo and Co.

Against a very talented Jets defensive front, New England is going to need their rookie guard to be at his best.

So far, the Patriots (1-1) have been a surprising team.

They upset the Cincinnati Bengals on the road in Week One before losing a close game in overtime to the unbeaten Seattle Seahawks in Week Two.

It is clear that this offensive line that the Patriots have is a force to be reckoned with.

The team is currently tied for fourth in rushing yards per game (177.5), and that is thanks in part to the play of the line.

Against the likes of All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and edge-rusher Will McDonald IV (three sacks in Week Two), Jerod Mayo’s offensive line will have their work cut out for them tonight.

Layden Robinson’s performance will likely be very key.
