Former NFL head coach and Super Bowl champion Jon Gruden hasn’t been in the NFL since his email controversy tore down his tenure as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.

He took the typical path that a public figure takes when their image gets severely tarnished and disappeared for a few years, but he is now starting to emerge from the shadows and put himself out there more, possibly with the intention of getting back into American football in some capacity.

The current advisor to the Milano Seamen of the European League of Football did his first interview since the offensive emails led to his messy divorce from the Raiders, and Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports shared that Gruden does want to coach again, except this time, he wants to do it on the college level.

Gruden allowed CBS Sports into his coaching headquarters where he still works on his own and said “Yeah, I’m interested in coaching. My dad was a college coach, I was a college coach at Pitt, my wife was a cheerleader at Tennessee when I met her. Hell yeah, I’m interested in coaching. I know I can help a team, I know I can help young players get better, and I know I can hire a good staff, and that’s the only thing I can guarantee. But yeah, I’m very interested in coaching at any level, period.”

He acknowledged he is still going through his “due process” in terms of the legal process for his email controversy and still navigating the waters to figure out if he is going to be officially blackballed, but he clearly wants another chance in some capacity.
