WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation says a bridge over Kellogg is safe after an incident Monday that closed portions of Kellogg and bridges connecting Wichita to Eisenhower National Airport.
On Monday afternoon, police shut down two westbound lanes of Kellogg and the northbound bridge over Kellogg to Eisenhower National Airport after concrete fell from the bridge onto the road below.
The road was reopened after an inspection by KDOT determined it was safe to use the bridge. The department tells KSN News that minor concrete material fell from the southbound bridge of Eisenhower Parkway down onto Kellogg.
KDOT says this can occur naturally due to changing weather conditions. Crews removed additional loose material from the bridge to ensure it didn’t fall, and an inspection team deemed the bridge safe to use.
The department says a bridge designer is inspecting the bridge to determine whether additional repairs are needed.
