LEGO Horizon Adventures Should Take Advantage of One Marketing Opportunity

New and old Nintendo and PlayStation fans will be able to delve into the world of Horizon in a new way with the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures. Here, up to two players will be able to play as LEGO versions of Aloy and her friends as they embark on a journey to stop the Eclipse and discover Aloy’s true origins. While LEGO Horizon Adventures is slated for a Holiday 2024 release, its marketing has been rather minimal for a new entry in the popular series, with the game only having two trailers and a few social media posts to its name so far. To help rectify this issue, Guerrilla Games should team up with Epic Games to create a cross-promotional event between Horizon Adventures and LEGO Fortnite.

LEGO Fortnite’s Popularity is a Great Marketing Avenue

In 2023, Epic Games debuted LEGO Fortnite in partnership with The Lego Group alongside Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival. Here, players are dropped into vast open worlds in Survival mode, similar to Minecraft, where they can gather LEGO resources, build various structures, gather food, and fight. Players may additionally play in Sandbox mode, where they can spawn structures and items without having to use resources. In both Survival and Sandbox mode, eight players can inhabit a single world at a time.

LEGO Fortnite goes beyond common Survival and Sandbox modes, however, as players and official developers alike could create their own worlds and game modes via the Unreal Editor. With this feature, The LEGO Group and other creators have produced various kinds of LEGO Islands filled with unique play options and environments, such as the LEGO Space-themed Smoothie Odyssey and LEGO Prop Hunt. Players could even purchase new LEGO-themed outfits or upgrade some of their favorite base Fortnite outfits in LEGO Styles when playing in LEGO game modes.

The Potential of a Horizon Adventures Crossover With LEGO Fortnite

While LEGO Fortnite and LEGO Horizon Adventures will presumably play very differently for one another, especially with their different player perspectives, there is still a lot of potential for the two to benefit each other with a crossover. LEGO Fortnite already has a precedent for promoting other LEGO products with their Star Wars Rebel Adventure Island earlier this year. Players were able to dress up in classic LEGO Star Wars minifigure outfits, fight with LEGO Star Wars weapons, and complete objectives with other LEGO Star Wars characters to help build a Star Wars-themed village. Players could even fight LEGO Star Wars enemies, including multiple variations of stormtroopers.

Epic Games could coordinate with Guerrilla to create a Horizon Adventures-themed event and island similar to the Star Wars Rebel Adventure. Instead of having a star destroyer crash in LEGO Fortnite, the Horizon Adventures crossover could be centered around some rogue machines invading the LEGO Fortnite world with Aloy and her friends arriving to help the player take them down. Gamers could complete objectives given by Aloy or some of her friends to help build Carja, Nora, Banuk, or even Tenakth-themed villages. Along the way, players could unlock and use some of Horizon’s more unique weapons, such as the bow, spear, sling, tripcaster, and icerail to name a few.

LEGO Horizon Adventures Cosmetics in Fortnite

With Horizon Adventures already recreating most of Horizon Zero Dawn’s characters in LEGO minifigure form, Guerrilla could let Epic Games reuse their LEGO models for the Fortnite crossover. From there, players could unlock or purchase some LEGO Horizon Adventures outfits of iconic Horizon characters, such as Sylens, Erend, Varl, and Talanah. Epic Games could additionally use this opportunity to bring back the Aloy outfit, Blaze Canister Back Bling, Spear Pickaxe, Glinthawk Glider, and Shield-Weaver Wrap first released back in 2021 in Fortnite. This could allow Epic Games to create new outfits for other Horizon characters in base Fortnite alongside new accessories based on other Horizon machines and weapons.
