Man arrested in assault, biting incident that sent 3 Southern California deputies to hospital

A man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly biting one deputy and injuring two others as they tried to take him into custody in San Bernardino County.

The incident occurred Sunday shortly after 2:15 p.m. when Fontana deputies were sent to a burglary call in the 18000 block of San Bernardino Avenue in the unincorporated Bloomington community.

The responding deputies received a second call about a man, later identified as Emmanuel Williams, 35, dodging traffic near San Bernardino and Linden avenues.

“Williams ran, evaded arrest, and narrowly missed being struck by vehicles while running in the roadway,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Deputies said they attempted to get Williams to comply but he continued to avoid them.

“Deputies chased after him and, with the assistance of an arriving Fontana Police Officer, took Williams into custody after a struggle,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Williams allegedly bit a deputy after his arrest and injured two others during the initial struggle.

All three deputies were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and were later released, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Williams was also treated at a local hospital for pre-existing medical conditions and was later booked on suspicion of obstructing/resisting an officer.

His connection to the initial burglary call, if any, was unclear.

Anyone with further information about the incident was asked to contact the Fontana Sheriff’s Station at 909-356-6767
