A man working at Tesla has narrated how he reacted to the company’s rejection six years earlier and the advice he received.

The man, known as @Mikepc1988 on X, said he made it through two rounds of the process but was ultimately not employed.

However, thanks to the words of a Tesla manager at the time, the man worked his way up to a permanent post with the brand.

Tesla man narrates the career-changing advice

@Mikepc1988 recounted how a Tesla manager pulled him aside following his unsuccessful application and gave him a piece of career-transforming advice.

“He said, ‘You have the desire, the knowledge, and the effort to do this job. But the problem is, you have no industry experience, and you’re competing against people with 20+ years in the field’.”

That profound advice fuelled the man’s determination to earn his place in the industry. He focused on improving his skills and gaining career experience.

“Since then, I’ve been an 88M (Motor Transport Operator) in the Army National Guard, worked at a dealership, gained experience in sales, pulled a Tesla out of a junkyard and restored it, and enrolled as a student at Universal Technical Institute.”

Tesla man explains his second chance

After gaining experience and improving himself, the Arizona-based man said he applied to be an intern at Tesla but received a surprising offer instead.

“After going through two interviews, they came back with unexpected news: ‘We’d rather start you as a permanent employee than a temporary intern’. Even more incredible, the person who gave me that advice six years ago remembered me and recognized how far I’d come.”
