- Ruben Amorim will coach Manchester United for the next two and half seasons after his appointment
- The Premier League giants have settled on the Sporting CP boss days after they fired Erik ten Hag
- Amorim has had success in Portugal in the last few seasons but is joining a team that is struggling
Manchester United have announced the hiring of Sporting CP boss as a coach, days after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.
The club has disclosed that the 39-year-old will officially begin his role on November 11. Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge until Amorim arrives.
He will be expected to rejuvenate the team, who have made their worst start in the Premier League. His first match will be away at Ipswich Town on November 24.
Man United fired Erik ten Hag on Monday, October 28, after a poor run of results in the 2024/25 season.
The Dutchman was in his third season at the club, but the controversial 2-1 defeat to West Ham last Sunday was the last straw.
Man United hire Ruben Amorim
Manchester United have handed Amorim a contract until 2027 with an option for an extra year.
The young Portuguese has spent most of his coaching career in Portugal, but his spell at Sporting CP has caught the eye of top clubs.
He joined Sporting in 2020 and has led them to two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles. This season, they have won all nine games in the leagues, scoring 30 goals.
The 20-time champions will pay Sporting 12 million Euros to acquire the services of Amorim.
He arrives with huge expectations. The club has struggled to compete in the Premier League, and results in Europe, especially in the last few seasons, have been poor.
Red Devils fans hope he can win their first Premier League title in a decade.
Mourinho on Amorim
Earlier, Fenerbahce coach and former Man United boss Jose Mourinho shared his opinion on Amorim.
The veteran coach had some nice things to say about his compatriot, who visited him at Carrington in 2018 for an internship.
Who will shine under Amorim?
In another report, Legit.ng also reported that Man United legend Jaap Stam said Matthijs De Ligt will thrive under Amorim.
The Premier League winner stressed that Amorim’s three-at-the-back style suits the new signing, who has made an indifferent start to his career in England.
