A media preview of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center’s new Friese Family Tower marked the expansion of the 50-year-old medical center and what hospital officials say brings “a new era of elevated health care” to the San Fernando Valley.
In a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 19, hospital officials said, “Providence and Cedars-Sinai came together in Tarzana because we want growing communities in the Valley to have easy access to the highest quality care.”

The expansion includes the new state-of-the-art patient tower, a healing garden and original art by Los Angeles-area artists.
The five-story tower contains 150 beds including a 32-bed emergency department that doubles its capacity. It also includes a 42-bed surgery unit, a 42-bed progressive care unit, a 22-bed critical care unit, a 20-bed cardiovascular unit and a 16-bed pediatrics unit.
In its statement, hospital officials explained, “We are growing the specialty care services and advanced treatments available locally, adding new technology and creating spaces that offer our patients calm places to heal. Our goal? Eliminating the need to drive over the hill to get outstanding care.”

According to hospital officials, the Friese Family Tower will officially welcome its first patient on October 1.
