Middletown Youth Club investigating altercation between parents and coaches during Sunday’s football game, report

Middletown’s Youth Club continues to investigate an altercation between parents and coaches Sunday in Middletown. Multiple suspensions were immediate, according to a statement on MYC’s Facebook page.

Middletown Youth Club contact Brent Walko was not immediately available for comment, and it’s uncertain if a police investigation was opened.

A phone message to Lower Swatara Township Police was not immediately returned Tuesday.

WHP 21 first reported the incident that reportedly took place between the host Raiders and Harrisburg Cougars. A video of at least part of the altercation did circulate on social media.

On its Facebook page late Monday, MYC announced it was investigating an altercation that occurred between parents and coaches on Sept. 17.

“We are reviewing videos, witness statements, and conducting interviews to ensure an impartial and unbiased verdict by the MYC Board of Directors,” the statement read.

“At this time, all known individuals partaking in this altercation have been minimally suspended indefinitely from all MYC events. The safety and well-being of our children, families, and volunteers remain our FIRST priority.”

The statement continued: “We sincerely apologize to all our fans and followers, but especially to our kids for this unfortunate occurrence. We will learn from this incident and have taken immediate corrective actions to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.”

The announcement included the club’s adoption of coordinated coaches and parents’ meeting, mandatory coach/parent relation training, and added sportsmanship monitors for games.
