Music Exec Says 1 Superstar Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Twice

Kendrick Lamar is set to take center stage as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl LIX Halftime show in New Orleans.

The announcement followed the recent feud between Lamar and Drake, where the two artists exchanged lyrical jabs.

Many fans have declared Lamar the victor, particularly after his chart-topping hit “Not Like Us.”

As speculation swirled about why Drake hadn’t been offered the prestigious halftime slot, a new revelation has emerged.

Record executive Steve Stoute said Drake was, in fact, offered the Super Bowl Halftime Show on two separate occasions.

Speaking on “The Pivot” podcast, Stoute clarified that Kendrick’s selection wasn’t a result of the feud’s outcome.

“Drake was offered the Super Bowl twice,” Stoute said, via Ryan Clark. “Drake did turn down the Super Bowl twice. I’m sure if he would have said yes, he would have brought Lil Wayne out at some point.”

This disclosure has sparked additional interest, especially considering Lil Wayne’s connection to New Orleans.

The proud native reportedly expressed disappointment at not being chosen to perform in his hometown.

Given Drake’s status as Wayne’s protege, it’s plausible that he would have included his mentor in the performance had he accepted the offer.

Stoute also highlighted Jay-Z and Roc Nation’s role in selecting Super Bowl artists.

He suggested that Jay-Z deserves more recognition for his efforts in supporting the culture, rather than facing criticism.
