The NFL season is underway and MLB is getting ready to start the playoffs, but even though it feels like we just enjoyed an incredible run in The Olympics from Team USA, NBA basketball is right around the corner as teams have already started hosting their respective media days.

One NBA insider believes that a particular coach who has been a hot topic of discussion of late “put on a clinic” in the playoffs and is deserving of more credit than he typically gets.

Breaking news guru Shams Charania made another of his regular appearances on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday and said “Joe Mazzulla put on a clinic in the playoffs and he’s one of the best coaches in the NBA.”

Charania praised Mazzulla for overcoming a trying first year as the team’s head coach and thinks he did a great job improving over the previous offseason.

He also said that the Celtics are still the favorites to win another title going into this season given how motivated Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are after a summer that saw both take various perceived slights during the Olympics, with Tatum getting benched and Brown not making the team.

Boston will have to navigate a sizeable early portion of the season without center Kristaps Porzingis, but the Celtics are bringing back every key member of last year’s rotation so that depth will be tested right out of the gate.

Shams is in the middle of a big life decision with ESPN presumably courting him to replace Adrian Wojnarowski, but clearly that doesn’t stop him from popping by to drop some ball knowledge.
