Newsom accepts bet from New York governor ahead of World Series

As the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees prepare for what’s sure to be a dramatic World Series, the governors of each state have agreed to make things interesting.

With a beautiful backdrop above the Hudson River, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul took to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday morning to make a bet with her peer, California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Hochul proposed that if N.Y. defeats L.A. in the World Series, Newsom would have to decorate his office with Yankees memorabilia for a day.

It didn’t take long for Newsom to respond.

“Game on, Governor Hochul,” Newsom said. “While I respect the Yankees’ storied history, California knows how to win championships … When the Dodgers take home the trophy, I expect to see Dodgers blue, not in the corner, but proudly displayed all over your office.”

Taking on the bet proved to be difficult for the native and former mayor of San Francisco, where the Dodgers’ arch rival, the Giants, play.

“As a proud San Franciscan, you won’t hear me say this often, but this year: Go Dodgers,” Newsom said.

Game 1 of the World Series starts at 5:08 p.m. PST on Friday.
