Despite being picked by many people to reach the Super Bowl again, the San Francisco 49ers suffered another crushing loss in Week 3 when they blew a late lead against the Los Angeles Rams.

They’re now 1-2, and on top of their many injury problems, they have plenty of issues to clean up, especially on defense.

Pass rusher Nick Bosa recently admitted that he has had trouble sleeping this week following the loss to the Rams.

“It’s been tough to sleep the past couple nights. Just mind racing,” Bosa said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “Always this time of year I’m itchin’ to get to Sunday, but after that it’s, like, major.”

The Niners built a 14-point lead in the third quarter against the Rams and seemed to be cruising to a relatively easy and routine win, but they collapsed in the late stages of the fourth quarter.

Defense and special teams were the main culprits, and overall, the Niners defense has been poor to start this season.

In recent seasons, they have prided themselves on winning with defense, but they rank 21st in points allowed and have given up several big plays, both in their pass defense and on the ground.

Some of the onus is on Bosa, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year, to step things up. He has 2.0 sacks this season, but both of those came in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Against the Rams, he had just two combined tackles.

San Francisco will host the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals over the next two weeks, and one more loss during that time could seriously jeopardize their chances of simply making the playoffs.
