– Instead of showing leadership and responsibility, the world’s leaders once again choose to bury their heads in the sand and say they are satisfied with weak solutions, says Secretary General of WWF Karoline Andaur.
She calls Cop 29 a missed opportunity that not only delays climate action, but also makes it much more expensive to deal with the consequences of climate change in the years to come.
Changemaker is also deeply disappointed by the result and says it is embarrassing to be Norwegian.
– I am indescribably disappointed. Developing countries are already the hardest hit by climate change, and now the rich countries leave it up to them to fight floods, droughts and forest fires almost on their own, says Marte Hansen Haugan, head of Changemaker.
– Right now it’s embarrassing to be from Norway. Not only does our prime minister drop out of participation, but we also do not make a single promise of financial contributions, she says and believes that Norway, with its oil wealth, should have contributed much more.
Elise Ã…snes, head of Spire, believes the decision of 300 billion dollars is a betrayal of the global south.
– This is a dark day for global climate action. Rich countries that have created the climate crisis owe at least USD 1,000 billion in climate finance annually. Today’s agreement fails the most vulnerable, and stabs the global south in the back, she says.
