McKeon won six golds, three silvers and four bronzes at the Olympics between 2016 and 2024. In 2021, she won seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics and really wrote herself into the history books.
At the same time, she has a bunch of medals in the WC and is the holder of several world records.
“I knew that Paris was going to be my last Olympics, and the following months have given me to think about what my future will look like,” writes the 30-year-old in a Instagram posts.
The Australian Olympic Committee hails McKeon as outstanding and an important part of Australian swimming.
In the comments section, several Australian sports profiles have sent their congratulations.
“Love your work, Emma. Enjoy the next chapter,” writes Ashleigh Barty, who for several years was one of the world’s best tennis players. She chose in 2022 to quit when she was only 26 years old.
