Pokemon Fan Designs Evolutions for Sableye and Mawile

Key Takeaways

  • An artist creates unique evolutions, Sabliris and Mawilder, for Sableye and Mawile, with detailed stats and lore.
  • Sabliris gets Steel and Ghost typing, inspired by bismuth crystals, while Mawilder is Dark and Fairy, inspired by Kuchisake-onna.
  • It is unlikely for Mawile and Sableye to get traditional evolutions.

Another dedicated artist from the Pokemon community has recently shared a couple of incredible designs that show off what potential evolutions for Mawile and Sableye could look like, with the creator of these unofficial Pokemon packaging a ton of statistical and Pokedex information alongside the concepts. Custom Pokemon designs remain widespread among the Pokemon community online, with many artists going wild sketching their ideas of what new regional variants and Mega Pokemon could look like in next year’s Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pokemon fan artists have proven time and again over the past several decades that there really is limitless potential when it comes to new creature designs within the world of Pokemon. For many years, creative fans of the franchise have been demonstrating their expertise through the creation of entirely new Pokemon of their own, often redesigning some of their favorites or imagining what new evolutions for them could look like. With the introduction of regional variants, convergent Pokemon, and Paradox Pokemon over the past few generations of Pokemon titles, fans have been exposed to even more sources of inspiration.

Though many of the 1,025 different species of Pokemon don’t feature fully-fledged evolutionary families, one fan artist known online as Sauce_Pesto recently chose to focus on creating new evolutionary forms for Sableye and Mawile. Though these two Pokemon are both quite widely recognized, with the critters originally debuting with the classic Gen 3 titles, neither of them boasts any evolutions or pre-evolutions aside from their mega forms. As such, the artist has shown off their very own Pokemon named Sabliris and Mawilder, accompanying the designs with a page that details the custom critters’ new stats, moves, abilities, shiny appearances, and more.

What These Fanmade Pokemon Evolutions Look Like

Evolving with a Shiny Stone, Sabliris replaces its predecessor’s Dark and Ghost dual typing with the Steel and Ghost typing instead. Its physical design is mostly inspired by the appearance of bismuth crystals and light prisms, as well as a creature in folklore known as the Flatwoods monster. Mawilder, on the other hand, is largely inspired by pieces of Japanese culture, including a figure known in Japanese urban legends as Kuchisake-onna. This Pokemon would be able to evolve thanks to the Dusk stone, and features a Dark and Fairy dual typing.

With these Pokemon already complete with their own mega evolutions, it’s generally agreed that Mawile and Sableye are unlikely to ever officially receive a traditional evolved form, unless they someday receive regional variants with their own alternate evolutionary lines. Though Mega Pokemon haven’t appeared since Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, they have been confirmed to return next year in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, though very little is known about this next title in the franchise.
