Pokemon GO Player Finds Newly-Added Pokemon in the Most Perfect Spot

Key Takeaways

  • Pokemon GO fan catches exclusive Stonjourner near Stonehenge, sparking envy among players globally.
  • Stonjourner added to Pokemon GO in Max Out season, has limited availability, and UK players are experiencing frequent spawns.
  • Unique place-based spawn rates like Stonehenge may be deliberate in Pokemon GO, encouraging real-world exploration for rare finds.

A Pokemon GO fan that went on vacation found a Stonjourner in the most perfect place possible. The Pokemon was just recently added to the Pokemon GO mobile game, and this fan’s find has left some others a bit envious.

Pokemon GO adds new creatures to the game all the time, with the Max Out season adding Dynamax to Pokemon GO for the first time. The series has over a thousand creatures, but they’re added to the mobile game gradually so that players don’t exhaust the available content. One of the Pokemon that was added just before this spotting is Stonjourner.

Pokemon GO player sultryGhost took to the game’s subreddit to share their catch of multiple Stonjourner. However, what made the finds so special isn’t just the fact that they’re exclusive to the UK and thus out of reach of many worldwide players. A pair of AR screenshots show that the player actually tracked down and caught several Stonjourner right in front of Stonehenge, the Pokemon’s real-world inspiration. While the exact purpose(s) of the ancient megalithic structure has been debated, it’s well-known that Stonjourner is designed to look exactly like one of Stonehenge‘s giant stone monuments.

Pokemon Fan Was in the Right Place at the Right Time

According to sultryGhost, they arrived in England just before Stonjourner was officially added to Pokemon GO. When visiting Stonehenge, they insisted that they had to catch at least one, and ended up with six. Several players congratulated the player on their find, discussing how it was the most perfect place to catch one. Some also expressed envy, as limited-region Pokemon in Pokemon GO are largely inacessible if one isn’t able to go there themselves. However, others expressed the opposite, as players in the UK are apparently being bombarded by Stonjourner and would prefer to see less of it.

With so many Stonjourner reportedly appearing across the UK, it may not be that the game is actually programmed to increase its spawn rate at Stonehenge. However, it’s not out of the question that the devs at Niantic could have done that, either. Pokemon GO has based spawns around biomes, like bodies of water, and as this is a single Pokemon with a single place of significance, it may have tweaked it accordingly. In any case, at this moment, if players choose to visit England, it sounds as though they won’t have any problems catching a Stonjourner to bring home, even if they don’t make the visit to Stonehenge for one.
