Rabiot nodded France into the lead in Milan after three minutes on a cross from Digne, and half an hour later France were awarded a long-range free kick. Digne shot, and Italy goalkeeper Vicario was unlucky when the ball hit the post, over his head and into the goal.
Soon after, Andrea Cambiaso reduced the lead, but after just over an hour, Digne and Rabiot again ensured that France took a two-goal lead, and the recipe was the same as with the first goal. The Aston Villa full-back hit a precise cross which Rabiot forwarded into the goal with a header.
With the victory, France passed Sunday’s opponents and won the group on better goal difference.
In the same group, Israel took a strong 1-0 win over Belgium after a late goal by Yarden Shua. He got free in the box and shot in the corner.
The match was played in Hungary as a result of Israel’s conflict in the Gaza Strip. It was already clear before the match that Israel will be relegated to the B division, while Belgium will play relegation qualification.
In the 1st half, Belgium was forced to make a substitution when Arsenal profile Leandro Trossard was injured. He went off the track on his own machine.
