Readers respond: Enforcement moves addiction around downtown

I attended the Ann Patchett event at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Sept. 7. It was very well attended, with comments from the stage about how great Portland is. I agree, almost unreservedly. However, as I walked in the South Park Blocks, just beyond the Schnitz near the Portland Art Museum, there were so many homeless people. Of course, some were quite innocent, but quite a number were obviously using drugs. Is this what we want? Run them out of the area near Washington Center, and where else can they go? How about the South Park Blocks? Save this space, Portland. Out of towners are drawn to these venues!
