Reduced capacity of power cables to foreign countries has resulted in cheaper electricity in Norway – Dagsavisen

It is the connections to Denmark, Germany and England that have had reduced capacity in recent days.

– The reduction in capacity on overseas connections has had a fairly significant effect on prices this week, says chief analyst at Volue Insight, Tor Reier Lilleholt, to Europower.

The day before the capacity was reduced, the daily price in Sørlandet was 80 øre per kilowatt hour, while when the capacity was reduced on Tuesday, the price fell to 52 øre. This price level has remained the same for the past few days. Lilleholt says that there are no other explanations for the drop in price.

– After Monday, the hydrological conditions have not changed significantly, he says.

In the rest of Europe, electricity prices have been high. On Wednesday, Germany had an electricity price of almost ten kroner per kilowatt hour at its highest.

On Friday, capacity should be back to full on the three international connections.
