Rome against the US proposal to reform the Security Council

ROME – Italy does not agree with the US regarding the reform of the UN Security Council by expanding that body with the entry of six permanent members without the right of veto, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said today.

He said that a number of other countries agree with Rome that new members should be determined by the principle of rotation, and not become new permanent members alongside China, France, Russia, Great Britain and the USA.

“Expansion is fine, but with rotations.” The debate is open, but we have a different proposal,” said Tajani, who is also the deputy prime minister, ANSA reported.
