Bryce Young’s recent benching by the Carolina Panthers after just 18 games has sparked intense debates in NFL circles.

The former No. 1 overall pick’s swift fall from grace raises questions about his future and the Panthers’ decision-making.

Ryan Leaf, a name synonymous with draft disappointments, also weighed in on Young’s situation.

In a candid interview with TMZ Sports, Leaf didn’t hold back, placing the blame squarely on the Panthers’ organization.

He argued that Carolina mishandled Young’s development from the start, stating, They screwed this thing up from the get-go, though. I mean, this organization is horrible. This organization has done nothing to try to help and develop a player that has so much expectation on him.”

Leaf’s critique extended beyond mere player development. He accused the Panthers of failing to provide adequate support for a player burdened with immense expectations.

The former NFL quarterback’s analysis didn’t stop at organizational critique. Leaf expressed concern about Young’s mental state, suggesting that the benching has severely impacted the young quarterback’s confidence.

Drawing from his own experiences, Leaf further empathized with Young’s position, stating, “He has zero confidence right now. No one believes in him and no one has his back. And I know what that feels like.”

And indeed, it’s premature to write off Young’s career entirely.

The NFL has seen numerous quarterbacks flourish later in their careers after initial struggles.

Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold serve as recent examples of players who found success years after their initial drafting, often with different teams.

Moreover, Young’s journey in the NFL is still in its early stages.

While his current situation with the Panthers appears challenging, history suggests that a change of scenery or a few more years of development could significantly alter his career trajectory.
