Amid the flurry of election results this week, voters also weighed in on an array of water governing board seats.
Candidates were vying for seats on the board of the Central Basin Municipal Water District, the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, the Three Valleys Municipal Water District, the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, the La Puente Valley County Water District and the Orchard Dale Water District.

Water boards’ functions vary, but basically they make decisions on water resources and the delivery of water in various areas. The districts than carry out that management, as the direction of the board directors. The are, in effect, a local government in themselves that seek a reliable water supply in their jurisdictions.

The Central Basin Municipal Water District serves 1.6 million people from 24 cities and unincorporated areas in southeast Los Angeles.
The San Gabriel Valley Water District serves residents in Alhambra, Azusa, Monterey Park and Sierra Madre. Directors serve four-year terms.
Three Valleys Municipal Water District serves Pomona, Walnut and eastern San Gabriel Valley. Directors serve four-year terms.
The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District serves an area that includes Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, City of Industry, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Glendora, Irwindale, La Puente, Monrovia, Rosemead, San Gabriel, South El Monte, South Pasadena, Temple City and West Covina.
The La Puente Valley County Water District serves residents in parts of La Puente and the City of Industry, as well as Avocado Heights.
The Orchard Dale Water District serves customers in Whittier. Each director on the five-member board are elected to a four-year term.
Below is a summary of semi-official results released by the Los Angeles County Registrar’s Office, as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. Subsequent releases will be released in the coming days until the results are certified.
CENTRAL BASIN MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 1
Central Basin Municipal Water District Division 1 Director Leticia Vasquez Wilson led with 38.65% of the vote., followed by water director/teacher Martha Camacho-Rodriguez, with 28.17%.
Technologist/Cudahy mayor/businessman Jose Gonzalez had 19%, followed by small business owner Jose De Leon with 9% and Lemekia Rhashaan Pope with nearly 5%.
CENTRAL BASIN MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 2
Instructor/school board member Gary Mendez led with 37% of the vote. Entrepreneur Whittier homeowner Max Ordonez had 28%. Lisseth M. Flores-Franco had 16.3%. Josué Alvarado had nearly 10% and Fernando Islas, a loan officer/Realtor, garnered 9.05%.
CENTRAL BASIN MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 4
Water Board director Juan Garza led with 63% of the vote, followed by Los Angeles County Commissioner Dora Sandoval, at 37%.
SAN GABRIEL VALLEY MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 2
District Board Member Steven Placido led with about 57% of the vote, and Alhambra Library Trustee Nicolas Quach was about 14 percentage points behind.
THREE VALLEYS MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 2
Three Valleys Municipal Water District Director David De Jesus led with 48%. School Board Member Jeanette Flores followed with nearly 30%. Martin Ray, retired city of Alhambra Public Works director Martin W. Ray, with 23%.
THREE VALLEYS MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 6
Water Director/Educator Jorge Marquez took the lead with 40%. Water Operator John Mendoza followed with 37%, and incumbent Danielle Soto garnered 23%.
UPPER SAN GABRIEL VALLEY MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors, Division 2
District Director Charles Trevino garnered a commanding 71% of the vote. Businesswoman Mindy Yeh had 29%.
LA PUENTE VALLEY COUNTY WATER DISTRICT (2 seats)
David Argudo, a member of the district’s board of directors and a member of the La Puente City Council, was leading with 32% of the vote, followed closely by William Rojas, a member of the district’s board of directors, at 31%. David “Lucero” Hastings, a water treatment operator, was at 29%, and Vincent Matthew Santana, a fitness trainer, was at 8%.
ORCHARD DALE WATER DISTRICT Member, Board of Directors (2 seats)
Director of the Orchard Dale Water District Yvette Stevenson-Rodriguez won 53% of the vote, followed by Incumbent Dennis Azevedo, at 25%. Public Affairs Consultant Frank Aguirre Jr. had 22% of the vote.
