The Houston Texans offense may not be taking off as the team may have hoped for, but they’re still in a good spot as they’re 2-0 through two weeks of the 2024 NFL season.

The Texans are being pegged as a potential dark horse Super Bowl contender and it’s easy to see why when evaluating its roster.

Houston has a strong core of offensive players headlined by C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins, but they’ve got great support options in Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon.

Both Diggs and Mixon came over via trade in the offense and have already shored up an offensive unit that looked to already be on the rise.

Unfortunately for the Texans, Mixon will be unavailable for their Week 3 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings due to the ankle injury he suffered in their Week 2 win against the Chicago Bears.

Without Mixon, Houston is calling up J.J. Taylor from their practice squad via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

“Houston promoted RB J.J. Taylor from the practice squad,” Pelissero reported.

Taylor could be in line to see some touches out of the backfield this weekend as Dameon Pierce was also ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Cam Akers will draw the start for Houston against Minnesota, though the team might consider limiting his snaps given he’s coming off an Achilles injury.

The game script could force the Texans to lean more on Stroud anyway given how efficient the Vikings have been offensively, so it’ll be interesting to see how much the run game contributes on Sunday.
