Valjevo ‒ The traditional Valjevo theater festival “Abro fest”, organized by the City Theater “Abrašević” in cooperation with the Valjevo Culture Center, under the auspices of the city and the Ministry of Culture, celebrates its coming of age this September. Its 18th edition from September 20 to 28, again according to tradition, will mark four performances – two premieres at the Valjevo theater and two guest performances, as a continuation of the long-standing cooperation with the Belgrade and Novi Sad theater academies.
On Wednesday, September 20, the festival opens with the premiere of the interesting and rarely played comedy “War on the Third Floor”, based on the works of Pavel Kohout and Borislav Pekić, performed by the City Theater “Abrašević”, directed by Miroslav Trifunović. According to Branko Antonić, editor of the program at the “Abrašević” theater and one of the actors in the play, it is a somewhat unusual adaptation.
– It’s about the theater of the absurd, which we haven’t played much, but it’s actually a very interesting story interwoven with Czech humor. It is an absurd situation that in the future countries will no longer wage wars because it is expensive, but a computer will determine individuals who will wage war against each other until absolute destruction, and states will provide logistical support. War translated into private frameworks, with the patronage of the state – Antonić revealed some details of the play.
Two days later, on September 22, in continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the Faculty of Dramatic Arts from Belgrade, the senior acting class of that institution will perform the most frequently performed Shakespeare’s comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
On Tuesday, September 26, there will be another premiere of the City Theater “Abrašević”, the play “On Crime and Punishment” based on the motifs of the masterpiecethe works of Fyodor Mihailovic Dostoyevsky, again directed by Miroslav Trifunović.
This year’s Valjevo theater festival will be closed on September 28 by students of the final year of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, gathered in the “Promena” theater, who will perform Nikolay Koljada’s play “Murlin Murlo”, a play “about the desire for success and escape from Čamotinja”.
