It is Nordland newspaper who writes that Haikin is considering applying to become a Norwegian citizen. Today he holds British, Russian and Israeli passports.
– I have a Norwegian fiancé, and I plan to live here. I would love to become Norwegian, and I love this country. That is one of the reasons why I want to learn the language. I think it is important, says Haikin to AN.
He adds that the desire is not related to football, but will strike if an opportunity opens up on the Norwegian national team.
– What I primarily want is to think about the future of my family, my children and my wife. So that’s why I do it. But obviously I would love it, so we’ll see.
Haikin has been called up to Russia’s A national team, but only plays age-specific matches.
National team manager Ståle Solbakken does not rule out Haikin if the goalkeeper is serious about his plans.
– Yes, he would be relevant. I think he has had a very good season, after he was a bit up and down when he came back. He is certainly someone who has the level to play international football, he says to Avisa Nordland.
