At the same time, 33 percent answered that they agreed with Prime Minister Olaf Scholz’s wish to hold new elections in March. The survey was carried out by Infratest-Dimap on behalf of ARD.
The government coalition consisting of Scholz’s party SPD, the Greens and the Free Democrats collapsed on Wednesday, and Scholz says he will ask cabinet questions in January.
Among those asked, 59 per cent also answered that they welcomed the collapse of the government, while 40 per cent considered the Free Democrats to be responsible for it happening. Finance Minister Christian Lindner from this party was fired by Scholz on Wednesday.
26 percent of those questioned considered the Greens to be to blame, while 19 percent blamed the SPD.
Next Wednesday, Scholz will update the National Assembly on the situation in the government, DPA learns.
