The millionaire figure that King Juan Carlos received from Saudi Arabia at his coronation (and that he did not declare to the Treasury)

He King Juan Carlos I is once again at the center of controversy after a new journalistic investigation revealed that at his coronation he received a million-dollar gift from the Saudi Arabian government.

While this news that occurs in the midst of the scandal that is already persecuting the emeritus after the Dutch press published some photographs in which he appears kissing with the ex-vedette Barbara Rey. So this new controversy only adds to the accumulation of controversies in which it has been involved in recent weeks.

How much money did King Juan Carlos receive from the Saudi monarchy?

According to an investigation by The Countrywhich was recently published, King Juan Carlos would have received a “gift” of 10 million dollars at the beginning of his reign by Saudi King Khaled Bin Abdelaziz, who was in charge of that country between 1975 and 1982. “It was a gift from king to king, a donation as soon as he acceded to the crown,” according to the media. A figure that would currently be equivalent to 9 million euros.

In turn, the same publication indicated that this millionaire amount was received by the father of Philip VI a week after being named king of Spain, on November 22, 1975, and that this was not declared to the Treasury since it was transferred to a Swiss bank account.

While this gift would have been the first of several donations that he received from the Saudi monarchy since he ascended to the throne, since, as is known, in 1989 he obtained 36 million, as well as a credit of 50 million and 100 million in 2008. Furthermore, none of these amounts were declared to the Treasury.

While the aforementioned Spanish media points out that as a sign of gratitude for this million-dollar gift, the emeritus traveled to Saudi Arabia and that Manuel Prado, who at that time was the monarch’s financial advisor, would have been present on said visit.
