Uber partners with Rivian for week of electric vehicle rides in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Uber users can specifically request one of the nation’s top electric vehicle brands to take them to their next destination.

Uber has partnered with EV maker Rivian for a week of rides to showcase innovative and premium experiences that are possible with electric vehicles.

Users can specifically reserve a ride in a Rivian R1S all-electric SUV now through Oct. 28 in the Uber app.

The trips will cost as much as a standard Uber Black SUV reservation and will include 15 extra minutes of wait time, Uber says.

The partnership with Rivian is meant to show how the ride-hailing service is committed to providing sustainable transportation options, Uber says.

In 2020, Uber said it would be transitioning into a “zero-emissions platform” by 2040, something Rebecca Tinucci, Uber’s Global Head of Sustainability, said was the “right thing for our riders, drivers, and the cities we serve.”

“A recent poll found that 1 in every 4 riders says their first-ever EV ride was on Uber, and that’s just the beginning,” Tinnuci said. “We’re excited to introduce riders to Rivian’s adventure-ready R1S as we continue to highlight the world’s most innovative EVs.”
