Where to Find Thunder Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Every evolution stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is important, but the Thunder Stone is arguably the most important of all. The item is used to evolve five different Pokemon, including both fan favorites and fun newcomers. All the familiar evolution stones from past titles can be found in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. But while some are used on as few as one Pokemon, players will need several Thunder Stones to complete the Pokedex. Here’s where to get them and which Pokemon to use them on.

Updated on September 25, 2024 by Renri Seong: Evolution is key in Pokemon, and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are no exceptions. Certain species such as Pokemon mascot, Pikachu, can only evolve with evolutionary stones. Thunder Stones, as their name indicates, are used to evolve several Electric-type Pokemon. Like most evolutionary stones, Thunder Stones can be difficult to find in Scarlet/Violet if you’re unsure of where to look. Unless you need on to evolve a Pokemon in your main party, you’re better off looking for Thunder Stones after you’ve won a few gym badges. The following guide has been updated to include how to unlock Thunder Stones in-store and where you can find two Thunder Stones in the “wild”/Paldea.

Where to Buy Thunder Stones in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Delibird Presents

Where to Find Thunder Stone in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

You can buy Thunder Stones at Delibird Presents for 3000 after you’ve earned 3 gym badges. The Fire Stone, Leaf Stone, and Water Stone will also become available. There are three cities that have Delibird Presents:

  • Mesagoza
  • Levincia
  • Cascarrofa

Buying Thunder Stones from Delibird Presents in Violet/Scarlet is the most surefire way to get them. Unfortunately, if you’re just starting your Treasure Hunt, it will be some time before the Thunderstones start appearing on the shelves. If you’re hoping to evolve one of your Pokemon as soon as possible, you should consider getting a Thunder Stone from a fixed location.

Contrary to belief, Thunder Stones
cannot
be won at the Porto Marinada Auction. You can get Dawn Stones, Dawn Stones, Shiny Stones, Sun Stones, and Moon Stones.

Where to Find Thunder Stones in Paldea

Dex Reward and Fixed Locations

Once you register 30 Pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex, you can collect a Thunder Stone as a Dex Reward. To do this, just open the Pokedex and tap the X-button. Also, keep in mind that you need to have 30 Pokemon registered, which means you’ll need to have caught them for it to count.

There are three areas that have a fixed Thunder Stone in Violet/Scarlet. You’ll be able to reach 2/3 of them as you explore Paldea and unlock Koraidon/Miraidon’s abilities. Fixed Thunder Stones are located in:

  • West Province (Area One)
  • Casseroya Lake
  • Levincia City

West Province (Area One)

The earliest Thunder Stone you can pick up is the one in West Province (Area One). You’ll find it at the top of a lighthouse near the road leading to the Open Sky Titan boss battle. Across the river are a number of windmills, some of which have staircases that spiral up to their top. One of them has a Thunder Stone. The exact location on the map can be seen in the above image.

Levincia City

The next Thunder Stone location is in Levincia City. If you go to the area on the right with the five buildings lined in a row, you can find a Thunder Stone. It’s near the lamp post facing the sea. Refer to the above image for the exact location.

Casseroya Lake

There’s a Thunder Stone in Casseroya Lake on the northwestern segment. If you look from Casseroya Lake’s flight spot, it’s the one directly west of it. Use Koraidon to climb to the top of the segment, and look for a Poke Ball item along the winding “road.” There are various items on each segment in Casseroya Lake, but if you’re looking for the Thunder Stone, it’ll be on the highest ledge. If you’re having trouble finding it, refer to the flag/objective marker on the above image.

Should You Evolve Them?

In Scarlet/Violet, you can use Thunder Stones to evolve a handful of Pokemon in Paldea. If you have the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC expansion, then there are two more Pokemon that require Thunder Stones to trigger their evolution. Evolving Pokemon is vital if you want it to have (normally) higher base stats. You can also have it “relearn” any moves it may not have learned in its pre-evolved form (ex: Eevee into Jolteon, relearn “Thunder Shock”).
