Whittier man accused of killing father; body found in parked car – Whittier Daily News

A Whittier man was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 17, on suspicion of fatally shooting his father in the head on March 12 in the city.

Police did not reveal what led them to identify 18-year-old Angel Orona as the suspect in the slaying of Robert Orona, 46, of Whittier.

Whittier’s SWAT team and detectives served a search warrant at an apartment complex in the 13600 block of Franklin Street early Thursday. Police found two ghost guns at the apartment, said Officer Emily Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Whittier police.

Angel Orona was arrested on suspicion of murder, resisting arrest, trespassing, being a minor in possession of a firearm and being a minor in possession of ammunition, Armstrong said.

The suspect, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, lived at the same apartment with his father, she said.

Police were investigating the motive for the shooting.

On March 12, police received a call of a possible shooting in the 13600 block of Franklin Street around 1:50 p.m. They found Robert Orona in a parked car.

Angel Orona was being held on Friday at Whittier jail in lieu of $2 million bail.
