Will give one billion to Gaza and Lebanon – Dagsavisen

It follows from Reds alternative state budget that will be presented on Tuesday, and to which Dagsavisen has been given partial access.

– Once again, the government delivers a budget proposal that does not even fulfill the Storting’s decision to set aside one percent of Norway’s gross national income for aid, in a situation where the world’s poorest country is struggling with energy prices from which Norway is making gross war profits. Rødt wants to turn this around, writes Rødt leader and fiscal spokesperson Marie Sneve Martinussen in an e-mail to Dagsavisen.

Emergency aid, peace and development aid

– In our alternative budget, we allocate 5 billion more to emergency aid, peace and development aid than the government, so that we meet the one percent target for solidarity with people in the south, Martinussen asserts.

Much to Gaza

In Rødt’s alternative budget, the party proposes, among other things, a separate item with increased support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The party also has earmarked grants for reconstruction in Gaza, for emergency aid and reconstruction in Lebanon, and an extraordinary contribution to strengthening the UN’s peacekeeping forces, including UNIFIL.

Altogether, over a billion goes to Gaza and Lebanon alone.

– Rødt believes it is high time for a power takeover for Palestine, emphasizes Rødt’s foreign policy spokesperson Bjørnar Moxnes.
