Witchfire: Best Classes, Ranked

Witchfire features six playable classes with different starting loadouts and stat distributions. Understand that choosing the best class only means choosing the best starting weapons, spells, and stats. Since nothing is exclusive to a particular class, players can unlock everything with every class by just researching the Workshop in Witchfire.

The starting gear, however, does mean that players can make their early game either overly difficult or relatively easy. Here are the best starting classes in Witchfire, and what they offer.

Witchfire: Tips for Beginners

Witchfire is not an easy game, and some players may have a little trouble starting out and will want some pointers to get them in the right direction.

6 Penitent

Starts From Scratch

Witchfire - Penitent Class

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon: Hunger (Medium Range)

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 9
  • Healing: 9
  • Endurance: 9
  • Witchery: 9
  • Metanoia: 15
  • Luck: 9

The Penitent is not recommended for beginners because the class is designed as a self-imposed challenge to make the initial few hours of Witchfire harder than normal. It starts at level 1 without any magical items except for a single weapon.

While the Hunger hand cannon is one of the best weapons, rewarding precise and critical shots, it is also the first weapon players can unlock in Witchfire from the Workshop. Hence, there is little point in choosing the Penitent as a starting class apart from getting a head start in Metanoia for bonus experience gains and having the absolute freedom to distribute stats from scratch.

5 Saint

Packs Every Gear Slot

Witchfire - Saint Class

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon 1: Ricochet (Medium Range)
  • Weapon 2: Vulture (Demonic)
  • Spell: Ice Sphere (Heavy)
  • Relic: Book of Serpents

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 9
  • Healing: 9
  • Endurance: 9
  • Witchery: 9
  • Metanoia: 9
  • Luck: 15

Like the Penitent, the Saint is another starting class players can shape as they please in Witchfire. The difference is that the Saint starts with four pieces of gear, one for every gear slot. His primary weapon is the Richochet which shreds tagged enemies while preserving ammo. He is also the only class that starts with a demonic weapon in Witchfire.

Balancing that excessive firepower is the Ice Sphere and the Book of Serpents. The former creates an icy sphere to shield the Saint from damage and freeze any enemies that enter the sphere. The latter curses enemies who manage to land an attack with Decay, an ailment that does damage over time.

Hence, the Saint offers a balance between offensive and defensive abilities. While the class suffers from low stats, the Saint can always rely on high Luck for better loot drops.

4 Shadow

Excels in Long-Range Sniper Shots

Witchfire - Shadow Class

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon: All-Seeing Eye (Long Range)
  • Spell: Shockwave (Light)

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 9
  • Healing: 8
  • Endurance: 7
  • Witchery: 16
  • Metanoia: 15
  • Luck: 10

The Shadow often tricks new players into thinking that the class revolves around stealth. The name, and the in-game description, are a bit deceptive. Stealth is not a mechanic in Witchfire since enemies sent by the Witch (the ones with glowing orbs on their heads) will always hunt you down. The Shadow actually starts with a weapon and a spell that makes him highly effective at long-range in Witchfire.

The All-Seeing Eye bolt-action rifle does critical damage to enemies at full health, which stacks with headshots. The weapon can be upgraded to also trigger a shockwave that damages and applies Decay to all nearby enemies. The Shadow, furthermore, starts with a Shockwave spell with the same crowd-control ability, ensuring that enemies are always at a distance.

While having the highest Witchery stat among all classes means players can spam their spells, the other low stats and the long-range dependency make the Shadow difficult to play with, especially for beginners.

Leveling up is an expensive affair. Here’s what all the stats do in Witchfire to help you decide where to dump your next points.

3 Hunter

Brings Satisfying Gunplay at the Cost of Health

Witchfire - Hunter Class

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon: Ricochet (Medium Range)
  • Relic: Painted Tooth

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 6
  • Healing: 12
  • Endurance: 16
  • Witchery: 8
  • Metanoia: 13
  • Luck: 9

The Hunter starts with gear that complements each other to bring immense firepower to every enemy encounter. The Ricochet damages up to three enemies simultaneously as long as they are tagged. However, hit critical shots on full-health enemies, and the Painted Tooth relic triggers to ignite them for burn damage. If players manage to keep all enemies in their line of sight, they can clear out an entire area quite easily. Elites or heavy enemies, though, do not count since they take a lot of bullets before going down.

The Hunter, however, has the lowest starting Vitality in Witchfire. A single enemy attack can mean death. Until players can upgrade their Vitality to a more suitable number, use the high Endurance to avoid and dodge attacks. Fortunately, the high Metanoia helps in farming bonus witchfire crystals to level up faster in Witchfire.

2 Slayer

Agile Spell Caster Who Likes to Get Personal

Witchfire - Slayer Class

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon: Cricket (Close Range)
  • Spell: Lightning Bolt (Light)

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 10
  • Healing: 8
  • Endurance: 13
  • Witchery: 15
  • Metanoia: 7
  • Luck: 12

The Slayer is an excellent option for players looking for the best starting class in Witchfire. Having nearly the same high Witchery stat as the Shadow lets him spam more spells. He also packs high Endurance, which makes him effective in all combat ranges.

With the Lightning Bolt spell to stun and shock enemies at a distance, and the Cricket automatic pistol to pepper enemies at close range, players must only worry about managing their stats and abilities in Witchfire.

1 Butcher

Well-Rounded and Battle-Ready Class

Witchfire - Butcher Class-1

Starting Level

Starting Gear

  • Weapon: Midas (Medium Range)
  • Fetish: Bittersweet Nightshade

Starting Stats

  • Vitality: 14
  • Healing: 13
  • Endurance: 14
  • Witchery: 6
  • Metanoia: 8
  • Luck: 10

The Butcher is easily the best starting class in Witchfire. His starting stats give players improved health regeneration, and larger health and stamina bars. Starting at level 6 also means players are closer to unlocking more health elixirs in Witchfire to boost their survival capabilities further.

The only downside is the extremely low Witchery stat, which limits players from relying on their spells for the first dozen hours. Thankfully, the Butcher also starts with an excellent weapon to balance that trade-off.

Midas is a medium-range automatic rifle that heats up to increase bullet damage and burn enemies. It can mow down groups of enemies with ease, and the improved Vitality and Endurance stats ensure that players can always dash out of trouble. That said, when low on health, the Butcher can use the Bittersweet Nightshade relic to push all nearby enemies away with a powerful shockwave.
