A woman was found fatally shot in a La Puente front yard on Wednesday night. Oct. 16.
The medical examiner’s office hasn’t publicly identified the victim yet, but sheriff’s Lt. Steve De Jong described her as in her late 40s. She didn’t live at the property where she was discovered, he said.
The shooting in the 900 block of Fickewirth Avenue was reported at 11:43 p.m.
A resident heard what sounded like conversation, a gunshot, and then someone asking for help, De Jong said, adding the resident called authorities.
Deputies checking the call saw the victim in a yard with a gunshot wound to the upper body, he said. She died at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
Investigators are looking for video that would help solve the case and asked the public to check their cameras for footage from 11:30 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
