World of Warcraft Banks Are Having Problems in The War Within Expansion

Key Takeaways

  • WoW players reported missing items and gold post-Patch 11.0.2.
  • Some lost items from guild banks can’t be recovered, but Blizzard will mail some missing items to guild leaders.
  • There has been a mixed response from players.

Shortly after the launch of Patch 11.0.2, World of Warcraft players reported issues with the Warband and guild bank features, with some reporting lost items and currency such as gold. Following the reports, Blizzard took to the official World of Warcraft forums to post an update on the situation, though the response was not entirely what players had hoped for.

As one of the main features of World of Warcraft: The War Within, the Warband system allows for more streamlined, account-wide progression for players with multiple characters on any server. The Warband system also allows players to share an account-wide bank that simplifies the process of transferring weapons, armor, and gold from one character to another. The Warband system also gives players an experience bonus for leveling multiple classes to the current level cap of 80. However, the Warband bank system initially launched in a buggy state and was delayed for several days while Blizzard ironed out the lingering issues.

However, weeks after The War Within‘s full release, another issue with World of Warcraft‘s player-managed storage systems came to light. According to a Blizzard forum post by community manager Linxy, the game’s guild banks had a bug that resulted in players discovering that some items had been reported missing from where they should be. In World of Warcraft, a guild bank is used by player-run guilds of all sizes to manage materials, weapons, and armor that can still be used by other players or traded at the auction house. Guild leaders can also set bank privileges for their guild’s membership as they see fit. Linxy said the reports first arrived a week after Patch 11.0.2 launched in August, and that this led Blizzard to conduct an investigation.

World of Warcraft Guild Bank Bug Caused Items To Be Lost

  • World of Warcraft players began reporting missing guild bank items and currency after Patch 11.0.2.
  • The culprit was reported by Blizzard to be a cross-realm guild technical update.
  • While Blizzard works to restore some of the lost items, some will be forever lost.
  • Guild leaders should check their in-game mail in the coming days.

The results showed that a technical update intended to support cross-realm guilds had a bug that caused one of the processes to make some items disappear. Linxy stated that some of the items missing consisted of materials from past expansions that World of Warcraft‘s professions still use today, but that other valuable items and gold may have been lost. Blizzard identified some of the missing items and will mail them to current guild leaders in the coming days, but added that some of the data cannot be recovered. Ergo, some lost items will remain lost forever.

The news received a mixed response from World of Warcraft players, but some thanked Blizzard for providing an update on the guild bank issues. With more Warband features planned for Patch 11.0.5 and beyond, it remains to be seen how Blizzard will prevent issues like this from reoccurring.
