WSU's Taylor Jameson excited to make return to her hometown

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — As the Wichita State University women’s basketball team prepares for the upcoming season, one player is ready to make her return to her hometown.

Shockers guard Taylor Jameson, a Wichita native, talked to KSN about her first year back in Wichita after four seasons at George Mason.

Now that she’s home, Jameson said she’s ready to take the court at Charles Koch Arena.

“I’ve really embraced the opportunity to just be home around my family,” Jameson said. “Gained a new family in Wichita State, and I feel like basically coming home is the best opportunity I could have gotten coming out of the portal.”

The Wichita Heights grad said she’s happy to be near her family while also joining a new sisterhood on the court, and she’s already eager to make an impact.

“I think I could bring a lot of energy, a lot of leadership,” she said. “I think my main goal this year is just to make the people around me better and bring home a championship to Wichita.”

Shockers head coach Terry Nooner said her grit and drive set her apart.

“Just her speed, her tenacity, her work, her work ethic, and just a big chip that she has on her shoulder there just for her being able to come back home,” Nooner said. “This was like a dream for her to be there. She’s going to get to spend her last year here and play at home in front of all her family and friends.”

The Shockers are looking for redemption after falling to South Florida in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament last season.

“You can expect a bunch of dogs grinding super grimy on the floor, going after everything,” Jameson said. “Lots of energy. A lot of talk; we’ll probably be the loudest team in the conference.
We want to be the dictators on defense in our offense. So definitely play up, as it is definitely the type of basketball I want to be playing.”

The former Falcon is ready to help the Shockers soar to new heights as they chase a conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.
