Young people and right-wing populists find together the simplest answers: Gi faen – Dagsavisen

Young people and right-wing populists find together the simplest answers: Gi faen – Dagsavisen

The center youth’s brand new leader presented himself this week at NRK’s Political quarter with being quoted as saying that he was fed up with climate policy and fed up with SV. As you know, first impressions are important, you only get one chance.

Nils Forren used his time to undermine his own government’s climate policy and drive a wedge between forces that must cooperate if the red-green side is to retain power after the election next year.

Young people are more concerned about the competitiveness of the business world than the carrying capacity of the planet

It’s doubly dark. The attitude of SV is a toxic inheritance from the mother party. More ominous is the signal that the youth, while his own government and Development Minister Anne-Beathe Tvinnerheim have fought for their future during the climate summit in Baku, are tired of what he calls symbolic politics – of “climate politics that don’t work”.

Forren wants more oil and coal, as well as mining on the seabedand claims that young people are tired of expensive measures. Without him pointing out what should have been done instead. A desperate battle is now being fought on many fronts and with many means to halt climate change. All is frustrated that the effect is not greater, that it takes so long, that the crisis does not subside. But the answer is not to declare yourself bored. It is not constructive. Not even acknowledging the problem, but rejecting all solutions, is high on the list of good contributions to the debate.

It is when young people become reactionary like Forren, that the alarm must go off at full blast. When young people are more concerned about the competitiveness of business than the carrying capacity of the planet, there is real danger afoot. Who will be uncompromising for the future if not those who will live in it? Is it really the youth who should be worried that it will be too expensive to save the planet? It is misunderstood on a whole new scale.

The Center Party’s youth organization is now in line with the Progress Party, which is flying high in the opinion polls with cheap populism that the climate measures are symbolic politics. They use the same rhetoric. And Forren, tellingly enough, when asked live, was unable to separate his own climate policy from that of the Progress Party. That was the first impression, then.

It is a very disturbing feature of our time that youth and right-wing populists find together in the simplest of all answers: Give the fuck.

Manager: The climate summit in Baku is coming to an end. We won’t save the planet this time either (+)
