Sunniva Holmås Eidsvoll stands out as a raw populist with his statements in Dagsavisen last Friday (paper edition Saturday 26 October). Funnily enough, she seems to have forgotten what responsibility she herself had as a school councillor.
When pupil numbers fall, school resources must be redistributed to give all pupils the best possible education. If one school gets fewer pupils, the costs must be gradually reduced. If more schools get fewer students, the school structure must eventually be reassessed.
The legacy of the red-green city council was a school needs plan that was so delayed that it was out of date before it came to the table.
After eight years of red-green government, Oslo has a five-year difference in reading skills among fifth graders in the same city. It is a recipe for outsiderness.
In Innlandet county, we see how it affects the citizens when the politicians do not take responsibility in time. Even if SV is a firm support wheel for the red-green government, Eidsvoll should still take it upon himself that it is irresponsible to turn a blind eye to societal changes.
The picture is reinforced when Oslo is to be deprived of 600 million more of its own income in one year. In this tough situation, the Conservative Party in the city council is doing what it can to protect the Oslo School, while the SV cooperates with a government that is systematically draining Oslo’s resources.

After eight years of red-green government, Oslo has a five-year difference in reading skills among fifth graders in the same city. It is a recipe for outsiderness. We know because we still have national exams.
We therefore need more knowledge about what students learn, not less. Høyre believes that Oslo’s schools should be given more priority over socialist detailed management. Evaluating the resource distribution model in Oslo School is responsible and forward-looking.
If SV in opposition does not want to deal with the government’s announcement of Oslo, responsible politicians must do so.
